Hi, I wondered if anyone could help define the diagnosis seen on my Dr's notes yesterday. The diagnosis was Sero negative inflammatory polyarthritis.
Many thanks

If you do a search on the site you'll get previous answers on this, LynnW's ones are always really good. But sero-negative just means that you are testing negative for the rheumatic factor, and lots of us do as it's not reliable an absolute test for having RA. Inflammatory arthritis is just the general name for a bunch of auto-immune diseases of which RA is the most common (others are things like juvenile arthritis etc).

I think the 'poly' prefix to arthritis means you have multiple joints affected rather than just one or two.

Hello there,

Poly is a greek word for many - So lot of arthritis.

I am sero negative as well it means my bloods do not show that I have positive R Factor, I beleive.

Hi, Shiela, Rose, Naomi, Helix,
Many thanks for your replies, and will look for Lynn's information on this. For some reason, it seemed worse seeing this written down. For most of the time I have fooled myself by thinking it will all be over soon, and off the medication and back to how I was. Well things have improved massively, but no reduction in medication after 3 years and still know when I've done too much, which wouldn't have been too much before!! Well you will all know what I mean. But many thanks again, off to look for Lynn's information now.
